Specipedia

Welcome to Specipedia, your essential guide to everything SEAT. We'll help you keep up with all the latest high-tech features that are available on our models, and explain exactly what the difference is between ESP and XDS.

The list of features below isn't exhaustive; new information will be added all the time, so check back regularly.

A

Active head restraints

In an accident, active head restraints move forwards to meet people's heads as they begin to move backwards, keeping their necks straight and reducing the danger of whiplash

Aux-in

Aux-in sockets enable music from an audio player to be played through the car's stereo

B

Bi-xenon headlights with AFS and daytime running lights

Bi-xenon headlamps give you superior light quality and illumination distance compared to standard headlights, while the Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS) gently steers the headlight beams to follow the steering wheel around bends

Bluetooth

Adding Bluetooth to your car's specification allows you to make and receive calls using the steering-wheel-mounted controls, MFD (multi-function display) prompts and voice-activated controls

C

Coming home headlight function

The coming home headlight function is a safety feature that is designed to help drivers feel more secure as they walk to their front doors or across poorly lit car parks

Common-rail diesel engine

Volkswagen Group's refined common-rail (CR) diesel engine is new to the SEAT range. It's available on Ibiza, Leon FR, and Altea and XL Sport models and the new Exeo

Combined USB Port (CUP)

The combined USB port - or CUP - was first introduced on the Ibiza. It enables the driver to use a USB socket to play music files via an MP3 player, without losing the standard aux-in socket

Custom palette

SEAT's custom palette is an exclusive range of high impact, glossy colours. There are six custom colours to choose from: four flat and two metallic colours

D

Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF)

Diesel-particulate filters, or DPFs, are used to filter out particulate matter (usually soot) from diesel engine exhaust emissions. It's used on all our Ecomotive models

DSG

DSG stands for Direct Shift Gearbox. Its multi-clutch design offers a superior driving experience to a conventional automatic transmission

DSR (Driver's Steering Recommendation)

DSR is a function of ESP (Electronic Stability Programme) that helps the driver to correct and steady a car that has become unstable

Dual-zone climate control

Dual-zone climate control has two settings; 'auto high', which reaches the target temperature as quickly as possible; and 'auto low', which gives priority to keeping cabin noise to a minimum

E

Ecomotive

Ecomotive models are SEAT's ultra fuel-efficient diesel cars, which combine a mixture of engine-efficiency improvements to produce less emissions and decrease fuel consumption

Electric windows

Everything you need to know about electric windows, including safety switches, one-touch opening/closing, comfort opening/closing and anti-squeeze function

Electronic Brake Assist (EBA)

Electronic Brake Assist (EBA) is a function of ESP (Electronic Stability Programme) that improves braking in an emergency

Electronic Stability Programme (ESP)

If the car starts to go into a spin, ESP will bring it back under control safely and quickly. This feature is standard across the Leon, Altea and XL ranges, as well as on the Exeo, Altea Freetrack4 and Alhambra

F

G

Gear-shift indicator

The new gear-shift indicator advises the driver when to change gear to maximise engine efficiency and performance

H

Hill hold control

Hill hold control (HHC) stops the vehicle moving backwards when the driver starts to move uphill (in either a forward or reverse gear) by braking the car's wheels

I

iPod connection (Exeo)

Customers can choose to have iPod connections fitted to their Exeos instead of standard-fit USB ports, so they can listen to and control iPods via the cars' audio systems

P

Parking sensors (front and rear)

Front parking sensors are new to the SEAT range. They work in a similar way to rear sensors, but can be deactivated by a dashboard button so they don't annoy you when driving in low-speed, heavy traffic

Q

R

S

SEAT's satellite navigation systems

Confused by the different types of satellite navigation systems available across the SEAT range? Our simple guide will help you tell them apart

SEAT Media System

The SEAT Media System is our next-generation satellite navigation system, which also interacts with the dual-zone climate control to display temperature settings and can show your proximity to other vehicles if the car is fitted with parking sensors

Sunroofs

Sunroofs are available as an optional extra on most SEAT models, but there are several types to choose from: panoramic glass sunroof, electric slide and tilt sunroof, and the Exeo's solar sunroof

T

TSI engine

TSI engines are our turbocharged direct injection petrol units, which use a water-cooled intercooler to improve the amount of power available from the engine. TSI technology is often used to boost our modestly-sized engines, such as the 1.4-litre TSI engines available on the Ibiza FR and Cupra

U

USB port (Exeo)

USB ports are standard on all Exeos. They allow users to listen to music on a memory stick or MP3 player via the cars' stereos

V
W

X
XDS

XDS is a sophisticated development of SEAT's existing ESP. XDS is regarded as an electronic differential locking system, which helps the application of torque to the driven wheels while cornering at speed. It performs a similar function to a mechanical limited-slip differential
